Stephen L. Nourse, a principal, joined the firm in 1987 through the merger of his firm, Nourse & Associates, with the Carney firm.

Mr. Nourse is President/Managing Partner of Carney Badley Spellman, P.S. and is Co-Chair of the firm's Construction Department. His practice involves all phases of construction litigation and counseling. He is a Panel Member of the American Arbitration Association. He represents public and private owners, contractors, design professionals, subcontractors, insurance carriers, lenders and developers.

Mr. Nourse has made numerous presentations to groups in the construction industry on claims and related legal issues. Before becoming an attorney, he worked in the construction industry on highway, bridge, dam and marine projects in the Northwest and in Canada. Mr. Nourse has a degree in civil engineering from Stanford University. Mr. Nourse is admitted to practice in the states of Washington and Alaska.

Mr. Nourse was named a Super Lawyer in 2010 by Washington Law & Politics. In addition, Mr. Nourse was recognized by Seattle Metropolitan Magazine as one of "King County's Top Lawyers 2010." Seattle Metropolitan Magazine culled their list using the Martindale-Hubbell ratings. Mr. Nourse has been awarded an "AV" Preeminent rating by Martindale-Hubbell®.
